Faith in Isolation Women's Retreat

The Women's Retreat Committee was struck up following last fall's retreat. We met and started coming up with all these great plans to bring the women of St. Matthew's a really great retreat. And then covid-19 hit. Like everything else (our work, our church, our families, our travel plans...), the retreat planning took a quick and unexpected turn. When we finally met to discuss how we were going to proceed, we learned a few key things.

1) Our faith is not defined or restricted by a pandemic.

2) Where two or three (or in our case five) are gathered in prayer and purpose, Christ is very (VERY!) much present too.

3) Our fears have common themes. Just like our faith journeys.

4) Like the VeggieTales used to sing "God is Bigger than the Boogie-Man", our faith journeys, our faith practices, and our faith in one another is bigger than any pandemic we might face. Investing that mustard seed of faith in another person has ripple effects that are truly out of this world!

5) When we think outside of the box, anything is possible. Even a retreat!!

Details (in so far as we have them)

Who: Really, whoever wants to. There are no restrictions. If you are reading this and thinking, "that sounds interesting" ... then sign up! IF you are reading this and thinking, "I would love that, but I don't know anyone"... sign up! (You can remain anonymous!)  If you are reading this and thinking, "HA! How are you going to pull this off?" Sign up! We love Thomas' and Nicodemus'!

What: A women's retreat. This is something that has happened annually at St. Matthew's long before I started attending. We are hoping to keep the tradition alive but in a covid-19 friendly way that will adhere to any and all AHS/CMOH guidelines and regulations.

Where: Wherever you choose. There will likely be two different streams. We will offer to connect you with a small group of people with a proposed location that you can meet and remain socially distanced OR you can opt to do it individually. OR you can sign up to have a phone buddy that you can call to discuss the discussion questions. You can do it in your backyard, your garage, your car, a parking lot, a friend's house, at your sisters, etc.

When: Saturday, October 24, 2020

Why: See above.

Cost: We are aiming to keep the cost at $20-25/person to cover the cost of the materials that you will be provided. If this number causes your heartrate to increase, call us. Or send us a secret message. Or send a smoke signal. This will not be a barrier for you to participate. That is a promise!

Format: There will be a form of bible study, there will be a way to express your faith outwardly (a long list of ideas so that you can pick something that speaks to you!), and as with any great women's retreat, there will be a form of music. How can there not be music? The Women's Retreat (and playing for it) was thee turning weekend that brought me back to church!

Here's what you need to do:

a) Prayerfully consider if you might want to join us remotely on Saturday, Oct 24.

b) If you have any questions or concerns, reach out to one of us by clicking here

c) If you wish to register, stay tuned. We are working on finishing up our registration forms! If you are keen and do not want to miss out on the registration form/process, you can click here to let us know and we will make sure to keep you posted!!

St. Matthew's Women Engaged!

Come, Drink and Be Merry!

There is a lot of good that can happen from putting down our "to-do" lists (yes, there are often more than one!), walking away slowly and calmly, and then drinking a merry glass of wine! Now imagine doing that with friends!

That is what this evening is about.

Whatever you find yourself doing on Thursday, December 12, 2019... at about 6:30pm, put it down. Then walk slowly to the door to gather your winter boots and jacket, and then head calmly over to St. Matthew's! There you will find other like-minded people to indulge in a glass of wine with, sing carols and hear three short reflections on different takes of the Christmas season and spirit.

That makes it sound like you might be visited by three ghosts, but rest assured, the three stories and reflections are heart warming and not ghost-like.

If you have any questions that are not addressed by the poster or description, click here to send an email to the group. Otherwise, see you Thursday!
